Review – SkinBetter AlphaRet Intensive Overnight Treatment

Based on the success I had with the Even Tone Correcting serum (see review here), I decided to try their retinol. They have two versions and I got the intensive version being a seasoned retinol user and my dear friend Joy told me the regular version would be too mild for me. I was really intrigued by the ingredient list and could not wait to dig in. Formulated with Ethyl Lactyl Retinoate which is a blend of lactic acid and retinoid, I was quite pleased with this “5 in 1” combo.

What is it?  A lightweight, hydrating retinoid serum.

Creamy texture. Goes on smooth.

  • Significantly reduces the appearance of wrinkles in as little as four weeks, with little-to-no irritation.
  • Combines two gold standard skin rejuvenation ingredients— a retinoid and lactic acid—to create a revolutionary double-conjugated retinoid.
  • Provides moisture to help counteract dryness associated with traditional retinoid-based products.
  • A potent blend of antioxidants helps neutralize free radicals.

Ingredients: Aqua/Water, Sodium Glycolate, Glycolic Acid, Cetearyl Olivate, Pentylene Glycol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isohexadecane, Sorbitan Olivate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Glycerin, Ceresin, Glycol Palmitate, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Squalane, Methyl Gluceth-20, Ethyl Lactyl Retinoate, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Ceramide NP, Hyaluronic Acid, Ubiquinone, Tocopherol, Bisabolol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Superoxide Dismutase, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Allantoin Glycyrrhetinic Acid, Sodium PCA, Panthenol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Linoleic Acid, Cholesterol, Linolenic Acid, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Dimethicone, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Steareth-2, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Acacia Senegal Gum, Xanthan Gum, Hydrated Silica, Carbomer, Polysorbate 20, Tromethamine, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

Price: $120/£110 for 30mls (I was lucky not to have paid full price…phew)

Performance: I started using this before I got a peel but stopped a week or so in March and started again a week after I was done peeling. I used this with the rest of the EvenTone Serum as it is said to enhance results. I love that fact that this reduces the number of products I get to use in one routine as I just double cleanse and slap this on when I ran out of the eventone. I am not sure of the percentages in it but heard it has 18% glycolic and 5% lactic but I could not find information on the percentage of retinol. I did read somewhere it translates to 0.025 Tretinoin but I am not sure. Though it says Intensive, this wasn’t irritating neither did it leave my skin sensitized. I would be honest and say I was a bit disappointed I didn’t see quick results like others have as I had high hopes for this one. I noticed smoother skin for sure as I didn’t use any other acid products except a toner every other day. Since I am also using a pigmentation cream, I can’t give this alone credit for my brighter skin but overall an okay product.

Repurchase? No. I preferred results from other retinol products probably because they have a higher concentration of retinol. This is a great product but there are cheaper products that give better results.

Have you tried anything from the brand? Let me know in the comment section

I tried the regular and was not pleased with the result either. Like you have rightly stated the results I achieved from the likes of Neostrata and even Pestle and Mortar Superstar could not be compared to this. Hence, started using it on my neck only. I can’t wait to finish up the regular and it’s a no for me as well.
